so what you see here from the obama administration, is that good news. does that change anything, in your view? >> there's a couple things that came out of this. when you respond to this many intrusions, see all the theft of intellectual property that we've witnessed, you recognize there's technical solutions that we've got to pursue, but there's never going to be the holy grail, where we've got the whole field covered. so you need diplomatic things done as well. and that's one of the reasons why mandiant released its port, we felt the tolerance in the private sector, that it's just shrinking. people are sick and frustrated with how much ip we've lost to chinese hackers. so we felt it was just a natural timing. let's get this report out, let's up the ante, and i think there's a real challenge on the diplomacy side of things, but one thing that struck me is that they said they would increase our diplomatic engagement. i think that's automatically good. without diplomacy, technology alone is not going to solve this problem. >> so good news, in your view, w

but as we heard, senator patrick leahy said, this is now in the hands of president obama. how he would take this group's recommendations once they return to washington. >> patrick, briefly, tell us about this. what some call the alan gross situation. it's been behind the scenes at least a little bit of a thawing in relations between the u.s. and cuba. how damaging is this? >> it's incredibly damaging because on one side, cuba is saying there are five cuban intelligence agents they would like to see returned. they would consider to be heroes, and the u.s. would consider them to be spies tried by prosecutors in miami. when you hear patrick leahy saying alan gross isn't a spy, what he's really saying is what the state department said all along. there won't be a swap. these are two different situations. the cubans obviously feel very, very differently. they've been pressuring the u.s. ever since last year to sit and talk and potentially discuss a swap between what they call their prisoners and the one that's still here in havana. i should add that patrick leahy and another con
